INDIVIDUAL NUTRITION THERAPY
our mission
Our mission is to help you free yourself from our culture’s toxic messages about what we “should” eat and how we “should” look.
what will nutrition therapy look like?
For folks struggling with their relationship with food, body or are seeking nutrition counseling for a pre existing medical condition, our dietitians’ goal is to meet each client where they are at. We aim to restore a neutral and balanced approach to eating while addressing the physical and psychological aspects of the condition.
In an initial consultation, the dietitian will gather information on medical and family history, eating patterns in the past and present, relationship to food and body, food related fears, any co-existing medical conditions, and long term goals of the client.
Sessions beyond this will be tailored to the unique needs of the individual. Our dietitians use a multidisciplinary approach as nutrition therapy is only one aspect of a comprehensive treatment plan for folks struggling with an eating disorder. Collaborating with a client’s therapist or other team members to develop healthy coping strategies for dealing with stress, emotions, and triggers that contribute to the disordered eating behaviors.
Nutrition therapy is not a short-term fix; it is a long-term process.
In general, sessions can include:
Education and psychoeducation about the role of food and nutrients in the body, dispelling myths and misconceptions and promoting a healthy understanding of nutrition using a Heath at Every Size and Intuitive Eating framework
Meal support and structured eating plans to establish regular eating patterns and/or provide adequate nutrition to support physical health, address any nutrient deficiencies, and re-establish normal growth patterns in kids/adolescents
Challenging fear foods with gradual exposures, discussions and education to help folks become more comfortable with a wider variety of foods using an All Foods Fit framework
Intuitive Eating; re-establish an attuned relationship with food which involves listening to hunger and fullness cues, eating without judgement, finding movement that brings joy, and mindful eating skills
RO DBT Skills and framework used with clients who have an overcontrolled temperament. Learn more about RO DBT here
